- Nineteenth-century education: Charter Act 1813, Macaulay’s Minute, Wood’s Despatch, Hunter Commission and the Bengal Renaissance.
- Curzon’s education policy and the National Education Movement, including causes and consequences.
- Between the world wars: Sadler Commission, Basic Education and Sargent Plan; progress in colonial school education.
- After independence: education commissions, policies in 1968, 1986, 1992 and 2020, and agencies and frameworks such as CABE, RUSA, RMSA, RTE and NCF.

- Meaning, principles and historical perspective of special, integrated and inclusive education; major disability-policy provisions and institutional functions.
- Barriers, teacher attitudes, positive behaviour and social skills needed for inclusion.
- Differentiated instruction, peer tutoring, cooperative and collaborative learning, remedial teaching, team teaching and circles of friends.
- Inclusive school environment: physical facilities, teacher roles and appropriate aids and technology.
